5 STEPS FORWARD

As the days get longer, the temperatures start to rise, and the flowers start to bloom, so it’s only natural to want to freshen up the place you’ve been hibernating all winter. But refreshing your home for the new season doesn’t have to take a ton of time or break the bank. I’ve got you covered with five easy, affordable ways to freshen up your home for spring.

1. Breathe In

Why not breathe new life into your home for spring by bringing in something alive? Fresh flowers used as a centerpiece on a table or kitchen island, on your nightstand, or even on your work-from-home desk can instantly bring a new sense of life, and color, into a room. My favorite places to shop for blooms are Trader Joe’s and Fresh Market because they’ve got a variety of flower types and colors and sizes of bouquets available.

Pairing your new fresh flowers with a spring-scented candle is a way to level up this idea. I absolutely love the Capri Blue Volcano candle for this time of year, which you can pick up at anthropologie & co. It comes in all different candle vessels, so you can pick one that matches your existing decor—or easily bring in more color.

2. Hang Ups

After spending so much time at home during the cold, dark winter months, sometimes you just need something new to look at, you know? Even though art can feel more permanent since it’s hung on the wall, don’t be afraid to swap it out—especially those pieces that you see on a daily basis. I recently swapped out the art above my couch for this beautiful navy and white abstract art I found at TJ Maxx. It was the same size as the artwork I previously had in this spot, so it took less than five minutes to swap out—but it made a huge difference in this room!

3. Slide Into Bed

If you’re anything like me, throughout winter, you’ve been sleeping on holiday-themed flannel sheets—even long after the holiday decor has been stored away. Now that it’s time to spring forward, refresh your bedding for more mild temperatures. You can’t go wrong with crisp cotton sheets in a beautiful floral pattern, like the ones shown here that I picked up at HomeGoods. They’ve got a great selection of affordable bedding regardless of your home decor style or bedding size.

4. Set the Table

Just like florals, pastels are a spring staple—and I love incorporating them into a spring table setting. This spring, when I am entertaining friends, I plan to use these cute rattan circular placemats I picked up at Tuesday Morning and pair them with these blush plates, these pink glasses, these rattan napkin rings, and these light blue and white napkins I picked up at World Market. Paired with my go-to gold flatware from West Elm, this is an easy, non-permanent way to make my home feel refreshed for spring.

5. Lather Up

Never underestimate the power of a little luxury! Over the last few years, we’ve all been washing our hands more than ever before—and another easy way to give your home a refresh for spring is to start lathering up with a new bottle of hand soap. I love citrus-scented soap for spring because it smells really fresh and clean to me, which is exactly what I’m looking for to help move beyond the winter blues. I love buying hand soaps at World Market because they always offer the cutest packaging—which means something very quotidien becomes something visually interesting.
