BUTTER UP & ROLL

I am always looking for ways to feed my spirit and my belly! If you’re like me and always on the search for learning something new, try a Sur La Table cooking class! They are designed for all levels, and it’s a great date night idea, a fun activity with friends, or you can do it solo like me.

I pride myself on being a pretty good cook, but baking is a challenge. I’ve always wanted to learn how to make croissants, chocolate croissants and cinnamon rolls for years. And of course, once I saw there was a class on how to make these treats from scratch, I knew this was my opportunity!

First things first, the class was very intimate with a group of three. I was greeted by the chef and kitchen team, who gave us aprons and showed us the way around the kitchen. What I love most is everything is cleaned and prepped for you and the chef is very hands-on.

Making dough takes time, so in our class, we worked backward by using the dough from the class before us. While our croissants were baking, we would be making the dough for the next day’s class. And to make this dough, it takes A LOT of butter! We learned how to roll the croissants into the perfect shapes. Because the dough can’t go to waste, we used half of it to make “morning buns” which are basically gooey cinnamon rolls.

When making the croissant, it wasn’t hard really, just a lot of resting and rising until they naturally hit the perfect size. It does take a while. So if you’re looking to enjoy a warm flaky croissant on a Sunday morning, start prep on Wednesday!

My croissants came out so good! I was ready to eat them as soon as they came out of the oven. We then learned how to chocolate croissants, and this was my opportunity to add as much chocolate as I wanted!

This was such a fun experience. We hung around after and ate most of what we made but I made sure to have some to bring home for later. The class was so educational, and it was fun meeting others with the same interests. Highly recommend Sur La Table for your next experience or even for the perfect gift. They have date night cooking, brunch recipes, pasta making, and Tusan cooking.

Enjoy!
