STACKED TO PERFECTION

Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Getting Your Ears Pierced At Mejuri

Keeping it real: the beginning of my 2024 has gotten off to a rocky start. I was in the market for a fresh start, and while some may opt for a drastic haircut or a weekend getaway—I opted for a new piercing. Three in fact. I had my sights set on creating a dream ear stack, envisioning multiple piercings on each ear adorned with thoughtfully selected jewelry. Ear stacks are effortlessly stylish and trendy, and the combinations of piercings and jewelry are endless. Mejuri recently opened their piercing studio, and I knew I had to stop in and get their expert advice on how to curate my ears with their gorgeous jewelry. Read on for my full experience!

Before My Piercing

Mejuri’s piercing studio specializes in ear piercings and they offer 8 different placements including lobe, helix, conch and tragus piercings. I went into Mejuri with single piercings in my ear lobes that I have had since grade school and was in desperate need for an upgrade. To get my ear stack started, I knew I wanted a second lobe piercing, but also had my sights set on a mid helix piercing as well.

Stepping into Mejuri is gorgeous—the sleek storefront, adorned with expansive windows, bathes the rows of stunning jewelry in abundant natural light. The piercing studio is in the back, and I was warmly greeted by Mejuri’s piercer Sarah. Sarah has 17 years of piercing experience and she instantly made me feel welcome and at ease. I had shared ahead of time that I was there to get my doubles, but tentatively mentioned I was also interested in a midi piercing. Would three piercings be too much for one session? She must have sensed I was a bit nervous, and enthusiastically said, “Let’s do it!”.

Armed with a little more confidence, she helped me pick out my jewelry, which is displayed right by the studio. Mejuri offers a wide variety of 14k solid gold lobe and cartilage studs with flat backs for maximum comfort to help in the healing process and they’re all, of course, beautiful. I picked a small crescent moon and lightning bolt for my lobe studs and a bar sphere stud for my midi piercing. They’re all delicate and luxe, and the moon and lightning bolt add a bit of playfulness, which I love.

The Piercing Experience

Once Sarah was ready, she led me into the studio and offered me a clean hair tie to tie my hair back for the piercing. The studio was comfortable and clean and Sarah made the whole experience relaxed and pleasant. The highest priority for Mejuri piercers is safety and hygiene, so Sarah used single-use equipment and sanitized jewelry. Once again, Sarah has been a professional piercer for years, so I knew I was in good hands, right from the start.

As I sat back in the chair, Sarah told me to take some deep breaths as she prepared my jewelry. Once it was time for the actual piercing, she made it quick and easy so it was over before I knew it. Lobe piercings are the easiest in terms of pain, so she made sure to start and end with those piercings, and sandwich the midi piercing in the middle. I felt calm and safe the entire time and left with a chic and minimal ear stack. It was a win!

The Aftercare

Once the piercing was over, Sarah handed me a postcard with a QR code for aftercare tips, and shared a few tips with me right then and there. Mejuri offers a free check-up appointment after a few months to be sure your piercings are healing correctly and to downsize the post once it’s time, so I’ll be back to see Sarah in a few weeks. Before I left, I couldn’t stop staring at my newly stacked ears—they look so cute and have given me an instant and effortless confidence boost. I was treated to Laduree macarons for a post-piercing sweet treat and the whole afternoon was  so fun and enjoyable.
