Celebrate Bastille Day (July 14th) with your favorite French pastry – CROISSANTS!

There’s nothing like a classic traditional croissant, but we thought it might be fun to dress them up like the French flag for Bastille Day. Leftover croissants can be used for many things like breakfast sandwiches, French toast, and in this case a yummy dessert.

You’ll Need:

  • 4 Traditional Croissants
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Blueberry jam or preserves (we use homemade wild blueberry compote, see below for an easy recipe)
  • Whipped cream

For the whipped cream:

  • 1 cup heavy cream, cold
  • 2 tbsp confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract

Using homemade whipped cream makes a huge difference in your desserts and it is so easy to make at home!

Directions:

1) Using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, whip together the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla on medium-high speed until you get stiff peaks.

2) Slice the croissants in half about 75% of the way so that the tops stay attached.

3) First, spread a thick layer of blueberry jam to the bottom of the croissant. *Find a special blueberry compote recipe at the end!*

4) Either using a piping bag or a simple spatula, layer the whipped cream on top of the jam in an equally thick layer.

5) Finally, top with your fresh strawberries to create the beautiful blue, white, red layers of the French flag. Close the tops and enjoy!

Homemade Blueberry Compote:

– 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries

– 1 tbsp lemon juice

– 1 cup sugar

– 2 tbsp corn starch

Combine all the ingredients and cook over medium heat about 15-18 minutes until blueberries are cooked down and consistency is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

About Sunday Morning Bakehouse

Caroline Yi, Owner & Founder

At Sunday Morning Bakehouse, our goal is simple: to provide our guests with the best breakfast and cafe experience beginning with the service and ending with the last drop of coffee– and maybe a few croissant crumbs in their lap. From day one, we wanted to deliver the feel of a neighborhood bakery and coffee shop where you know who’s baking your bread and see the same familiar faces behind the counter. We have an open bakery workspace to give transparency about how your food is being prepared and what goes into it. We believe high quality food comes from high quality ingredients so we source the best of the best from our organic flour down to our imported French butter. At Sunday Morning we want you to feel welcomed and at home, with food that you know was prepared with love.
