GAL PAL GATHERINGS

Galentine’s Day is right round the corner! Here are 5 DMV spots with a gal-pal approved menu for Galentine’s day and beyond!

Julii is a favorite stop for my girlfriends and I because of the menu offerings, but mostly because of their delicious espresso martinis! We love the bistro meets Mediterranean vibe, especially in the evening when the gorgeous decor and the surrounding floor-to-ceiling windows create the perfect intimate atmosphere to catch up with friends. Our most recent Girl Dinner consisted of Dinner Rolls for the table, a Beet salad and Alsatian Tart to split, their super crispy potato wedges, and espresso martinis for dessert!

(Dinner Rolls- $8, Beet’s & Burrata- $18, Alsatian Tart- $18, Wedge Frites-$8, Espresso Martini-$13)

One of our favorite rooftop spots for happy hour has always been City Perch, and we were recently impressed with their brunch! Located within Pike and Rose and the IPIC theaters, they offer a pretty varied brunch menu. We decided to stick with the more traditional brunch offerings and really enjoyed the Short Rib Eggs Benedict and the Decadent Stuffed French Toast. I can never resist a brunch pastry so we also ordered the Smoked Salmon Popovers, and they were so good that we haven’t been the same since! This spot also gets points because it’s also in the perfect neighborhood to do some post-brunch shopping!

(Smoked Salmon Popovers-$14, Short Rib Eggs Benedict-$20, Decadent Stuffed French Toast-$18)

We can’t get enough of Planta and their brunch is no exception! They rotate items seasonally, and always have a great variety of new drinks and vegetable-centered eats on their menu. Even if you’re not vegan, we found that their attention to flavor and texture made for a delicious meal! When you go, make sure to try the Bang Bang Broccoli, the Loaded Breakfast Burrito, and the Bao Sliders! The portions were family-style and perfect for a group Galentine’s Day dine-in.

(Singapore Spritz- $14, Bao Sliders-$6.25, Bang Bang Broccoli-$14.50, Loaded Breakfast Burrito-$19.25, Chick’n Waffle-$23.75)

Mon Ami Gabi offers a prix-fixe lunch deal for $29.99 which includes lunch portions of menu staples such as the Steak Frites, French Onion Soup, and desserts such as their Profiteroles and Chocolate Mousse. We felt as if we were transported to Paris with their decor and french music. Their full menu as well as daily specials are also available. The steak frites were perfectly cooked, and the compound herb butter was unlike any that I had tried before. My favorite bit however had to be the Profiterole; it made me want to order a full sized dinner portion next time around!

(Lunch Prix Fixe- $29.99, Le Cabaret- $11.95)

Rakugaki in Wildwood shopping center is perfect for a low-key Galentine’s Day get together, especially if you love fresh sushi. Our favorite bites varied from the tuna and the yellow tail, however the table favorite was overwhelmingly the Beef Ragu Udon. The chewy texture of the udon and the comforting umami flavor of the beef ragu was a texture and flavor combination that we didn’t realize we needed, and was super comforting given the cold winter weather outside

(Beef Ragu Udon-$16, Assorted Nigiri Sushi ranging from $5-$9)
